Your cooker Your cooker is probably one of the most important appliances in your home. It is where you cook your daily meals. There are many types of cookers to choose from – cooktops or ranges, freestanding or built in, gas or electric. The brand choices have also widened over the past years. Gas or Electric: The Pros and Cons The first thing you may need to consider is the price. Although electric cookers are cheaper than gas ones, electricity is more expensive than gas. Electric cookers use easier temperature controls and the oven heats more evenly compared to gas-run ovens. Although you will have more choices in terms of style, color and brand with electric cookers, gas cookers heat faster because the fire actually licks your pots and pans. Although this gives us an escape from the cold outside, all gas appliances should be checked annually to make sure they are functioning correctly and working safely. Without these crucial checks you could be exposing you and your family to carbon monoxide poisoning and a variety of other dangers. Our customers need to be aware that there are indicators to show when your appliance isn’t working properly and requires servicing: The flame of your appliance is yellow and ‘lazy’ rather than burning with a ‘crisp’ blue flame. There are plenty of common gas range problems that can be addressed and fixed at home without spending any money. RJ Gas wants you to know about these do-it-yourself methods so that in times of crisis, and upkeep, you can depend on yourself, or even help your East London friends and neighbors with their appliances. Common Gas Range Problems Made Easy The good news is that a gas range cabinet isn’t hard to take apart, or disassemble. Let’s investigate a five step process that you can follow to do execute this procedure yourself. How to Disassemble Your Gas Range Step 1: First, remove all the screws that hold the panels into place, and then take off the control knobs. The knobs should be friction-fit and come straight off without a problem. However, on some models the knobs might have setscrews. If this is the case just use a good screwdriver or Allen wrench, along with old fashioned elbow grease. Step 2: Now it’s time to take off the back service panel. To do this, you will need to remove everything holding it in place, including control knobs, mounting screws, and perhaps screws that are hidden underneath molding. Step 3: Remove both the burner gates, and the top of the range to have access to burner assemblies. Ideally the range top should either come straight up, or go up and sit back on hinges that are found with some models. Step 4: If you have any issues with the surface light bulb, now is a great time to continue removing retaining screws along with panels to get to it so...Sep 19, 2012 | Gas Cookers, Gas Fires, Gas Ovens, New Home
