Here are some boiler fix tips that the home DIY- er can easily do.
Your boiler is one of the most important appliances in your home, especially during this time of the year. In fact, it is a “need”, not a want. Combi boilers are especially convenient because they provide heat and hot water to your home without the need of a water tank. More and more homes in the UK are preferring to use combi boilers over regular boilers – over 50% by 2010. However, while they are more efficient and more convenient, they are also more complex. This means they are more prone to problems and boiler breakdowns. Most of the common boiler problems are easy to fix though, and can be done DIY.
Here are some tips for a quick boiler fix if your boiler is not working:
- Always check the boiler’s pressure first. This is one of the most common causes of a boiler breakdown. (Here’s a survival guide to a boiler breakdown.) Check the pressure gauge on your boiler. The normal boiler pressure should be between the 1 and 1.5 bars. If the boiler’s pressure is higher or lower, you can adjust it. Read how here.
- The pilot light is another common cause of a boiler not working. If the pilot light has gone out, you can safely relight it yourself. Learn how to do this here.
- Remember to also check your gas connection. Make sure that your boiler is plugged in properly and that you do have both gas and electric supply. Check other gas appliances in your home to find out if your gas connection is working okay. If it isn’t, call your gas company.
Be sure to read the manufacturer’s manual before starting any work on your boiler. If you are not sure how to do a boiler fix, it is best to call a gas safe registered engineer from RJ Gas.
