Which Boiler?

Help with Choosing Which Boiler is best for you

Choosing which boiler for your home can be quite confusing and we recommend before buying one that you check with a Gas Safe Registered Engineer that you have chosen the best type for your needs.

Here are the major boiler types to get you acquainted:

  • sealed or unsealed open vent system boilers – uses up loft space for water storage and needs a cupboard in living space also hot water isn’t “on-tap” and is stored so can run out and then you have to wait for it to re-heat
  • back boiler – uses up even more space ( behind chimney, loft and cupboard) and can have quite low water pressure (most people only get this system if they are replacing another back boiler they already have)
  • unvented seal system boilers – you may consider this system for a larger home though you can still run out of hot water and must wait for it to be heated when you use it
  • combination boilers – uses up the least space, hot water is on tap and can be very economical but may not be best for larger homes. Perfect for most London flats

Which boiler brand?

In a survey by WHICH? which used information from over 3,000 home owners, the top two brands for gas heating were Vaillant and Worcester Bosch. Of the two Vaillant scored best for least amount of breakdowns.

We recommend getting the best grade you can afford and to get regular yearly check-ups for good running which will save you money in the long term.
