All About Power Flush

A power flush is a process used to clean the central heating system in order to get rid of the sludges or rust that can affect the system’s efficiency. It does more than just cleaning because it also aims to bring back the normal flow of water in the system and at the same time eliminating the noise that you hear from the boiler or the pump.

How is it done?

Due to the specialization needed for the task, a power flush is carried out by a heating engineer. A pumping unit is connected into the central heating system and a cleansing chemicals are used in order to flush out any ‘dirt’ or residues in the system. The chemicals used during the process are designed to remove rusts and sludged or take out the lime scale. The length of time it takes to finish the entire process is dependent on how big your system is.

How do I know if I need a Power Flush?

Power flushing is not something that you need to do month after month although it is recommended if you plan to connect a new boiler to your older or existing heating system. You need to be more observant and watch out for the warning signs. Like for example, you hear noises coming from your boiler or your pump. You noticed that there are certain areas on your radiator that feels cold. You also notice the cloudy water coming from your faucet. Your heating system takes time before it warms up and when you ‘bleed’ your radiator, you’re seeing discolored water coming out. If you notice any of these signs then you will most likely need the help of a professional to carry out the procedure for you.
