Energy Statistics in the UK 2012

energy statistics for the UK 2010-2012Energy Statistics 2012 Eye Openers

Here are a few of the really juicy bullet points broken down in a 29 March 2012 statistical press release from the Department of Energy and Climate Change. It gives an idea of what the annual 2011 data looks like, and what kind of implications there are for the UK, especially our friends and neighbors in the East London area. RJ Gas knows all about energy consumption, we’ve made it our business for generations.

It’s important that we all have solid footing on where we stand in this changing and shifting modern world. Energy is our business, and it’s everyone’s concern, so RJ Gas put this together to inform and empower our fellow British folk.

Energy Statistics Concerning 2010-2012

  • Overall, production of energy hit a record low, 13.5% lower than a year earlier, in 2010. Apparently, this is because of drastic declines in oil and gas production, slow downs, and ultimately a import dependency of 36.5%. 1976 was the last time we saw those kind of energy statistics.
  • The downward trend in oil production that seemed to begin around the turn of the century continues, being down by 17.5% more than in 2010.
  • Natural gas as well saw its production lower by 21% annually over 2010.
  • Primary energy usage fell 7.5% from first quarter 2010, to 2011.
  • Gas demand was also lower by 17%, and electricity by 3.5%,
  • Miraculously, household electricity bills “across all payment types” went up 8.5%,gas +9.3%, all the while continuing to be the fourth lowest in the EU.
  • Finally, Petrol and diesel as of March 2012 has reached, and continues to reach, new record highs.
