Cleaning Your Gas Oven

  • Ensure that all burners are turned off and allow them to cool off before starting.
  • Burners
    • New models mostly feature sealed stovetop burners. If yours have these, do not attenot to remove the sealed burners. This must only be done by a professional. A sealed burner also prevents food and oil from spilling into the burner box, so it is not necessary to remove it.
    • Soak removable burner gates in warm soapy water and scrub using a scouring pad. Rinse well and dry.
    • Scrub off stubborn grime on the burners using a mild abrasive cleaner and a piece of cloth.
    • If an abrasive cleaner is not available, make a paste using baking powder and water instead.
    • Wipe your stove top after every use to remove spills. Use soapy water to clean the solid top.
    • A mixture of rubbing alcohol and household ammonia diluted in water is a good solution to use on your stovetop to keep it shiny.
    • Avoid the gas ports on the burners – the holes on the burners where gas is emitted.
    • If they get clogged, clean them by poking a straight pin or toothpick in them.
  • Controls
    • Remove the control knobs and wash them in soapy water. Rinse and dry.
    • Use a damp cloth to wipe display areas and clocks clean.
    • If you are using a glass cleaner, spray it on a cloth and not directly on the clock surface.
  • Oven Door
    • Do not excessively soak the (removable) oven door in water. This can cause stains and discoloration.
    • Wash with soap and water, and then rinse with clean water.
    • If you are using a glass cleaner, spray it on a cloth first.
  • Oven Interior
    • Use mild abrasive cleaners and plastic pads to clean.
    • Read owner’s manual before using commercial cleaners.
    • Wipe spills as soon as possible for easier cleaning.
    • Pour salt on the spill while it is hot, and wipe it clean when the oven is cooled off.
    • You can also use a baking-soda-and-water paste to clean the interiors.
    • Remove racks and wash them in warm, soapy water.
    • Scrub stubborn filth using mild abrasive cleaners or a scouring pad.
