One of the most annoying things that can happen during winter is to have your boiler suddenly stop working and you are, literally, left in the cold. It doesn’t matter if its the thermostat or the water heater thats not working properly, an even colder winter is no fun.

Homeowners that use boilers and radiators are usually unaware that about two thirds of their energy bills is the fuel used to run their central heating. If a boiler has higher efficiency, it will use less fuel to create the same amount of heat.
A new, modern boiler will have an efficiency of about 90 per cent, while an older, non condensing model – some say even new ones – will have an efficiency of 75 per cent or less. In monetary value, this could mean about £150 in savings annually.
The fact is, as boilers get older, especially if they are not maintained well, they come less efficient, making it more expensive to run.

- Is your boiler too old that maintenance is expensive and the parts that you need are no longer available?
- Is the boiler occupying too much space at your home that you think you can use for other things?
- Are there grants available for you to replace your boiler at a more reasonable price?

- Get quotes on boiler installation and replacement from your local engineer. Get at least three so you can compare prices.
- Only hire gas safe registered engineers and make sure you check their ID.
