A central heating system is essential to any home or office. This is especially true in London, where winters are cold and frosty and summers are unbelievably hot. A central heating boiler provides liquified heat to run your household or office appliances like your heater, water heater, air conditioners, cooking appliances, and such.

Installing a good boiler is important. Consider it an investment. However, it is expected that you will encounter central heating boiler problems from time to time. Here are some of the most common ones:

1) Boiler Not Heating. This is possibly the most common and most frustrating problem you will encounter with your boiler. There could be many reasons why your boiler is not heating – this could be a broken motorized valve, thermostat, diaphragms, airlocks or even low levels of water.

2) Leaking Boiler. This is one of the central heating boiler problems that will require some assessment to find out the cause. A lot will depend on which part of the boiler the water is leaking from.

3) Noisy or Buzzing Boiler. You may hear some weird buzzing, banging or whistling noises coming from your boiler. The reasons for this could vary. It may be that the water pressure is not enough, its kettling or there is air in the boiler.

4) Boiler Pilot Light is Out. If the thermocouple is broken and is causing the problem, then it needs to be replaced. You may also look into the need to clean the pilot light, if dirt has built up.

5) Low or Losing Pressure. If the boiler is leaking, it will most likely lose pressure as well. The pressure relief valve may also need to be replaced.

6) Condensate Pipe is Frozen. A warning light or an error code will show if the condensate pipe is frozen. The freezing is inevitable overtime when using a boiler, and could block water flow in the system. Thawing a frozen condensate pipe is a must here, but must only be done by a qualified engineer.

7) Broken Thermostat. Old thermostats are one of the most basic central heating boiler problems. When thermostats get old, they become faulty and inaccurate. This can be purchased from your local hardware stores.

8) Boiler is Kettling. Kettling is caused by the build up of lime in your heating system and can cause grumbling noises. These are central heating boiler problems common in areas where water is hard.

9) Radiators Not Heating. There could be  many this affecting the heating of the radiators. There is a possibility that the pipework is corroded. If the pipeline is filled with unwanted deposits, the hot water is not able to flow freely. There will be a need to flush the boiler to clean it.

10) Boiler Suddenly Turns Itself Off. Any of the central heating boiler problems mentioned above can cause this.

It is important to note that when you encounter any of these central heating boiler problems, you must contact a certified engineer who is Gas Safe Registered. Fiddling with the boiler yourself is unsafe and may cause more danger to you and your family.

RJ Gas Heating Services is full of engineers and technicians who can help you fix any of these central heating boiler problems, and provide you advice on how to avoid them later on.
